Fertilizer Cost & Efficiency

 Fertilizer Efficiency Calculator (OnlineExcel)

Improve your farm profitability, reduce risk and enhance environmental safety.

Producers are faced with historically high fertilizer prices, highly variable grain prices,  an increased focus on the environmental impacts of fertilizer use and the need to integrate, recalibrate and optimize all these variables in order to maintain farm profitability.

The Fertilizer Efficiency Calculator allows producers, agronomists and industry partners to quickly and easily assess the financial benefits to improving beneficial fertilizer management practices.

A properly-fed crop generally is the most profitable. Rather than cutting fertilizer rates, look to increased fertilizer use efficiency. Spring banding requires less fertilizer than fall broadcasting for the same relative fertilizer requirements. Efficient fertilizer application can often save $15 to $30 per acre without jeopardizing yield potential.

Fertilizer Cost & Affordability

Farm Management surveys fertilizer prices at farm input retailers across Manitoba every spring and fall.

The charts below show the relative affordability of urea and granular phosphate compared to the price of wheat and canola.  When the cost affordability is below average, fertilizer is priced affordably and is an opportunity for producers to build and maintain soil nutrient levels.
