About the Chief Veterinary Officer
The Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO) is responsible for leading work on issues related to animal health and disease surveillance, by upholding several Manitoba laws related to these areas. The CVO is also the leader when it comes to One Health, the connection between animal and human care, and how all of those issues connect into the overall strength of Manitoba’s agriculture and agri-processing sectors. The CVO leads the Animal Health section of Manitoba Agriculture’s Animal Health and Welfare Branch.
Manitoba’s CVO is Dr. Glen Duizer.
Following graduation from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 1995, Dr. Duizer spent several years in mixed animal and food animal practice in the Maritimes and southeastern Manitoba. He joined Manitoba Agriculture in 2005, taking on roles in veterinary extension, as well as animal health surveillance. Dr. Duizer’s expertise in epidemiology, emergency preparedness, and disease surveillance and response will continue to contribute to the health and well-being of animals within the province.
