Residential Care Licensing - Expression of Interest
If you are interested in becoming a private home share provider for adults living with an intellectual disability receiving supports through the Community Living disABILITY Services (CLDS) program, please review the Understanding Residential Care and the Home Study Process (PDF) document.
If, after reading this document, you remain interested in becoming a private home share provider, please complete the Expression of Interest form (PDF) and submit it to Residential Care Licensing at RCLEOI@gov.mb.ca. Please note that this is not an application form.
Once you have completed and submitted the form, Residential Care Licensing will consult with the CLDS program to confirm there is a need for the resource. If a need is identified, the Residential Care Licensing will contact you for further information and you will be required to participate in a home study process. If a need is not identified, your information will be kept on file for six months in the event a need is identified.
Home Study
Anyone applying to become a private home share provider will need to participate in a home study. During the home study, a case manager will collect information about you and your family to learn about your interests and motivation to provide care, as well as to identify strengths and areas for growth. All information gathered will be summarized in a final report that includes the case manager’s recommendation as to whether to issue a Letter of Approval for the home.
The home study consists of different stages completed by the case manager to assess your ability to provide care and supervision to individuals. The general stages of a home study are:
- A. application (including physical structure report and personal history profile)
- B. skills-based Interview
- C. home visit and inspection
- D. training and orientation
- E. finalization of home study report
- F. issuance of Letter of Approval
Placement
Once you have been approved to become a private home share provider, the CLDS program will review your home to identify an individual whose needs and preferences are matched with the skills, qualifications and home environment you are offering.
Annual Review
A review of all residential care facilities, including host family homes, occurs on an annual basis to ensure compliance with licensing standards and program expectations. Case managers can also schedule visits with private home share providers as needed to address any incidents or concerns, and to ensure proper recordkeeping.
