Watershed Management Planning
Community-based watershed management is a process for managing water resources that involves engaging stakeholders in making and implementing management decisions that are sustainable and appropriate for local conditions.
Manitoba Agriculture is involved in watershed management planning by providing technical information to the planning process. This often includes soils information such as soil texture, agriculture capability, and areas prone to wind and water erosion. Manitoba Agriculture was involved in the Integrated Watershed Management Planning (IWMP) process implemented by Manitoba Sustainable Development.
Ongoing research is required to better understand the role of agriculture in the watershed. Manitoba Agriculture is supporting watershed research by providing technical support to the Manitoba Watershed Evaluation of Beneficial Management Practices (WEBs) steering committee.
